Decarbonising industry in practice: another milestone reached!

The ACCEL project, dedicated to CO₂ capture and storage, has recently reached a major milestone. The government has awarded a grant of €360 million (Call for Tenders for Major Industrial Decarbonisation Projects), recognising both the importance of industrial decarbonisation, the relevance of Carbon Capture & Storage solutions where no technical alternative exists, and the maturity of the project led by Aluminium Dunkerque.

This breakthrough is the result of a collective effort by numerous teams. The project is now entering a highly operational phase, relying in particular on:

▪️ the commissioning of a test container, developed with our partners, to determine the most suitable amines for capturing our CO₂.

▪️ in-depth discussions with all stakeholders in the CO₂ transport and storage chain.ACCEL in key figures:-capturing 50% of the site’s CO₂ emissions;-equivalent to approximately 250,000 tonnes per year, primarily from the electrolysis process, with transport to secure geological storage in the North Sea.

Beyond the technology, ACCEL embodies a firm conviction: industry has a major role to play in the energy transition, right here in our region.

This project was funded by the Government as part of the France 2030 programme, administered by ADEME.
